Privacy Policy

Gibbous is made by Handler Labs LLC. This policy explains what the Gibbous app and the getgibbous.com website do with your information. The short version: Gibbous has no account, collects no personal data, shows no ads, and does not track you.

The short version

  • No account. You do not sign up, and we do not know who you are.
  • No data collection. Your settings, saved places, and bookmarks live on your device and sync only through your own iCloud, which is Apple’s service under your Apple ID. We do not run a server that stores your data, and we cannot see it.
  • No tracking, no ads, no data sale. Ever.

Location

Location is optional. If you allow it, Gibbous uses a coarse, city-level location on your device to calculate accurate moonrise and moonset times and the best times to photograph the moon. Your location is never uploaded to us and is not used to track you. You can turn it off at any time in the iOS Settings app, and Gibbous still works.

iCloud sync

If you use iCloud, your Gibbous settings and saved places sync across your devices through Apple’s CloudKit, tied to your Apple ID. This data is stored in your private iCloud database, which Apple secures and which we do not have access to. See Apple’s Privacy Policy for how Apple handles iCloud data.

Purchases

Subscriptions and the one-time purchase are handled by Apple, and entitlements are managed with RevenueCat and read on your device. These providers process the information needed to complete and validate a purchase, such as your subscription status and a purchase identifier. They do not receive any of your moon settings, locations, or usage. See Apple’s and RevenueCat’s privacy policies for details.

Notifications

Full moon, new moon, eclipse, and supermoon alerts are scheduled on your device from the moon’s own cycle. We do not send push notifications from a server, and scheduling an alert does not send anything to us.

Analytics and crash reporting

Gibbous does not include analytics or crash-reporting SDKs. We do not collect usage data.

Children

Gibbous is not directed to children, and it collects no personal data from anyone, including children.

Your rights

Because we do not collect or hold your personal data, there is nothing on our side to access, correct, export, or delete. You control your data directly:

  • Remove on-device data by deleting the app.
  • Manage or remove iCloud data through your Apple ID settings.
  • Manage your subscription in the App Store.

If you are in the EU, the UK, California, or another region with privacy rights, these rights still apply; they simply have little to act on here, since we hold no personal data about you.

Website

The getgibbous.com website is a static marketing and reference site. It does not require sign-in. If we ever add analytics or a cookie that is not strictly necessary, we will ask for consent first where the law requires it, and update this policy.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the date above and post the new version here.
